Rovers defeated in tough battle

12 Aug, 2010 02:45 PM
The Boorowa Rovers travelled to Canberra last Saturday to take on the Boomanulla Raiders in the last ditch effort to make the playoffs.

The Rovers had a great start with a 40/20 kick from Andrew Swaffield but the Raiders’ defence held us off.

The ball made it way up and down the field but Boomanulla were the first to strike going in 15 minutes into the game, and then minutes later, taking the score to 12-0.

The Rovers hit back from an inside ball from Andrew Swaffield, putting captain Shane Cross over. Swaffield converted.

The Rovers were starting to make holes in the Raiders’ defence and Danny Baddock broke through the line with Jason Corkery in support.

Jason grubbered for Justin Corkery to gather and race away for a spectacular try.

Swaffield converted putting the boys equal with the Raiders at 12-12.

The Rovers got a penalty in front 20 metres out and Swaffield converted right on half time, putting the Rovers in front 14-12 at the break.

Boomanulla came out firing in the second half and put on two quick tries, taking the score to 24-14.

With three Rovers players needing the blood bin and a couple of injuries, Boorowa started to do it tough.

Boomanulla then struck again putting the score at 28-14.

The Rovers hit back with a try to big Sammy Lynam who smashed his way over the defence, and Swaffield converted.

Boorowa was back in the race with the score at 28-20, but another try to the Raiders almost put victory out of reach.

However Sam Lynam again found his way to the line with the score at 38-26.

With time running out Boomanulla scored on the bell taking the full-time score to 42-26 in a very entertaining game.

All the Rovers players were great and they didn’t let up all game.

Sam Lynam took out Player’s Player for the day.

This Saturday the boys are at home and will play Binalong at 2.30pm.
