League season ready for kick-off

10 Feb, 2012 02:47 PM
With weather warming up it’s hard to believe that the Junior Rugby league is already making plans for the 2012 season.

The Country Rugby League are visiting both St Joseph’s and Boorowa Central School on Thursday, February 16 and the Bushrangers will be following this up with their sign-on day the following Saturday, February 18.

Registration day will take place at the pool between 2pm and 5pm with a barbecue provided.

The cost this season will be $30 per player with all the children receiving a free Bushrangers cap.

The following Friday night sees the clubs major fundraiser take place at the Ex-Services club featuring a huge night of entertainment.

Popular comedy group ‘Capital Punishment’, featuring former local Jez Margosis will be returning for a night of guaranteed laughs.

If four professional comedians are not enough, the Bushrangers are very excited to have also secured the services of the funniest man in Rugby League, the great Johnny ‘Bomber’ Peard.

Peard had a great playing career with the Roosters and Parramatta, playing in four consecutive Grand Finals from 1974-77, winning two with Jack Gibson’s Roosters then losing two with the Eels, while also representing NSW and Australia. Peard also had a successful coaching career followed by a memorable stint on ABC TV calling games with Warren Boland and Arthur Beetson.

He is now heavily involved with the ‘Men of League’, a charity organisation which helps care for anyone who has been involved with Rugby League and encounter difficulties.

The Bushrangers will also be donating a percentage of the profits from the night to this wonderful organisation.

The fun gets underway at 6:30pm and anyone looking for a great night out should not miss this.

At $25 it’s sensational value with five great entertainers, an auction and prizes up for grabs.
