 Hawks are the Champions

Hawks are the Champions

02 Sep, 2010 08:21 AM
In a grand final replay the Harden/Boorowa Hawks U/13’s took on their arch rivals the Junee Diesels at Young on Saturday.

We all knew it was going to be close and it turned out to be a nail bitter. Both sides started off cautiously, with neither side wanting to make a mistake and it was not till midway through the first half that Jared Prosser caught the markers napping and ran 50 meters to score, with the try converted by Tyler Allen making it 6 points to nil.

Minutes later Junee put up a kick and got a favourable bounce and scored in the corner, which was unconverted.

The Harden/Boorowa boys went to the break leading 6 points to 4.

The second half was an epic struggle with play going from one end to the other until Mick Hinds took an intercept pass and raced away to score, the try was unconverted and the Hawks lead 10 to 4.

Junee then threw everything they had at the Hawks in the final minutes but to the boys credit their scrambling defence held them out.

The boys were out on their feet when the final siren rang out and came away with a fantastic win.

It was really a great team effort and all the boys are to be congratulated. Jared Prosser for his effort was awarded the Rick Keast medal for the best on the ground.

The boys have come a long way, only two years ago they were wooden spooners and last year runners up only to go one better this year.

Thanks to all the parents who supported the boys all year from washing the jumpers to scoring and doing the write ups.

Also thanks to manager Beau Stewart and trainer Peter Bradford for a job well done.

There is something special about that Nubba water Peter.

And last but no least the Coach, Darren Prosser, who has done a splendid job with the boys this season.

He taught the boys great sportsmanship, team work and that never give up attitude.

He shared his passion and enthusiasm with the team and it showed all year. Congratulations Darren and you did it without breaching the salary cap.

Let’s hope the boys stay together and have another successful year in 2011.

Go the Hawks.
