AFTER a very successful fundraising night at the Tom Raudonikis, Arthur Beetson Night, the Under 8’s headed to the time honoured Junee Knockout Carnival in what was to be a very wet, cold, miserable day, but that was not to be said about the footy.
The Boorowa/Harden U/8’s put on a vintage display in three games against more fancied and numerous opposition.
Game One - was against larger well drilled side from Leeton, however captain Tracey Noakes rallied her troops to a fine win, leading by example scoring a couple of great tries.
Ned Evans continues to charge up the middle gaining valuable yards with some nice offloads and Nick Alcorn would be the envy of most NRL clubs with his tireless copybook defence.
The final score was Boorowa/Harden 30 Leeton 20.
Game Two – After a two hour break, a few pies, red drinks and lollies, had the crowd asking Coach Tim McGrath what was in the magic water bottle?
Wagga Kangaroos sporting about 20 players against Boorowa/Harden, eight players were left dumbfounded by the green and golds.
Tom Jenkins, Toby McGrath and Nick Alcorn were outstanding scoring a couple of tries each and pulling off some great defence.
But lifting to the occasion was none other than Adam Hinds, pulling off some great tackles, none better that the ‘head on’ against the Kangaroos monster probably twice his weight.
Minutes later, Tracey had the ‘big roo’ take to the bench for a spell, after a bone rattler that had Wagga applauding the tackle.
Boorowa/Harden won 52 points to 16 for the Wagga Kangaroos.
Game Three – After another two hour break, more pies, drinks and drizzled rain.
Manager Guy Evans did the sums and a draw or better could win us the pennant, however, the team had other ideas.
Win was the only option.
A ‘rampaging’ Gus Shea commented to coach McGrath that ‘the gaps were just opening up’ and he proceeded to run through them, having his best game scoring three great tries.
Our super dummy half, Charlie Baddock got out of her sick bed to put in her best display of the season.
Tracey, Toby, Tom and Nick all chipped in with tries and block busting defence.
In what finished a fiery few minutes after some cheap late shots from Cootamundra.
The Boorowa/Harden kids displayed great composure and sportsmanship to run out winners 46-16 and claim the pennant undefeated.
Coach Tim McGrath would like to congratulate the kids on a great day and thank you to our loyal supporters for putting in a long day in ordinary conditions.
Well done to all.
