Boorowa boys win

02 Oct, 2008 11:47 AM
THE Boorowa under 10’s played the game of their lives on Sunday at Cowra in the curtain raiser for the Woolbridge Cup Grand Final.

Boorowa juniors avenged the loss of the Boorowa seniors in the 1998 grand final against Grenfell, by whitewashing Grenfell to the tune of 40 points to nil. Both sides started like a house on fire with bruising defence and end to end attack.

Alex Blomfield got the scoring underway, showing great pace in his 50 metre run to score under the posts, followed by another soon after.

Sam Beath was very Wally Lewis like, directing his troops with every play in a polished display.

Jacob Carmody stopped many Grenfell raids with ball and all defence leaving the opposition looking to see what had hit them.

Johnno Davis made metre after metre straight up the middle and from good backing was rewarded with a try after a smart offload form George Chudleigh. George also bagged a late try after a strong game.

Ryan Hughston was a powerhouse leading the way in defence, topping the tackle count and having a great all round game.

Bradley Wales played his best game of the season, if he wasn’t in the action, he wasn’t far way, great effort in his first season.

Jack Corcoran, also in his first season, turns up to play every week and goes about his play with a minimum of fuss and is a top team man.

Jack Stanley pulled off some copy-book tackles, and with his stepping and weaving runs caused a few headaches for the Grenfell defence, scoring three tries.

Michael Berry had his game face on before the game and he had a blinder, and was unlucky not to score after one 50 metre burst.

Ben Jenkins caused problems every time he touched the ball, finishing the game with two tries to his name.

What a great finish to a great season, well done boys!

Thank you to Wil Stanley and Ben Davis, who happened to have their boots with them and gave the Grenfell boys a hand in the first half. Both looked right at home stepping up a grade, with Wil scoring a try.

Also thanks to Johnno and Ryan for doing the same in the second half.

A huge thank you to all of the parents and supporters who made the journey to cheer the kids on.

Regards to Alan Jenkins for keeping water up to the boys and to Robert Chudleigh for some of the best touch judge work ever seen.

Last but not least, Thank you to Danielle Berry for her efforts.
