LAUREN Jenkins from Boorowa’s St Josephs School recently spent a week in Forster playing in the NSW PSSA Touch Football State Carnival Championships.
Lauren represented St Josephs in the Mackillop team, which finished up in 5th place in the competition out of 12 teams.
This competition was the last step before selection in the NSW state team.
The Mackillop team consisted of 14 members from Catholic Schools from Wagga, Temora, Junee and several suburbs of Sydney.
They met for the first time as a team on Monday August 18 and had two 90 minute training sessions before meeting again bright and early the next day to play three games.
The girls came together beautifully for a
3 - 2 win over Western which gave them a bit of confidence to take on Sydney West in the
second Game who had trained solidly for 13 weeks twice a week, the girls played well but went down 3-0.
This only gave the girls more determination to take on Riverina the Championship winners for the past two years.
The girls came away victorious at the end of the day winning 3-2.
On the second day the girls lost the first game 2-3, however were determined to do better in the second game managing a draw against Sydney North 2-2, which put the girls in 3rd place in their Pool.
They came up against North Coast on the final day in the Minor Final. The girl’s skills only improved as they became more familiar with each other and they came away with an easy win 4-2.
>From this competition 12 girls were
selected to play for NSW in the School Sport Australia Touch Carnival in Launceston Tasmania to be held in October.
Lauren found the carnival to be a wonderful experience and a great honour as she also
celebrated her 11th birthday on the Thursday whilst in Forster.
Lauren made some great friends and was very proud to see one of her team mates from the Mackillop team selected for the NSW state team.
