The annual netball and touch carnival is just around the corner, scheduled for Friday October 24.
Certainly one of the biggest events in Boorowa, and arguable one of the biggest carnivals of its type anywhere, the netball and touch carnival generally involves approximately 3,000 students who play.
While for Year 2 to Year 6 students, secondary students do not miss out, assisting on the day with all sorts of activities.
A number of different school take part including students from Canberra, Yass, Bungendore, Binalong, Cootamundra, Goulburn, Gunning, Greenethorpe, Queanbeyan, Tumut, Monteagle, Temora, Young, Murrumburrah, Rye Park, Murringo, Quandialla and more.
In its current form the carnival has been running for approximately the last ten years, prior to that including rugby league instead of touch football.
During the one day event the Boorowa showground is completely transformed, as thousands of people watch and participate.
The carnival sees students split into pools, with each student participating in four to five games of 20 minutes duration.
All of the action begins at 9am and is finalised by 3.20pm.
To make the event the success that it has been in the past volunteers are urgently required.
People are asked to volunteer for line marking the touch field and netball court, which will take place for half a day each next Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as set up the day prior to the event and man the canteen on the day.
Ingrid Corcoran, one of the coordinators of the carnival, said if people do not put their hand up to lend a hand then the carnival may not be able to run in future years.
She said local students have been looking forward to the carnival and practicing their skills.
The carnival is a fundraiser for St Josephs School and Boorowa Central School, with any proceeds made divided between the two schools.
She said generally the schools end up with approximately $7,000 each, which goes a long way to helping the school purchase things for the students.
