11 Jun, 2009 08:17 AM
Megan Walsh had the honour of being named Captain of the New South Wales Under 18 Girls side which recently played a two test series against the ACT at Queanbeyan Bowling Club.

Megan kept this from family and friends who had travelled from Boorowa and Goulburn until the presentation on the Sunday afternoon.

Megan was selected to play in the singles as well as the pairs with Sarah Vesnjak of Raymond Terrace.

Sarah Boddington (Bomaderry), Naomi Elliott (Cabramatta) and Rebecca Matts (Maitland City) to play the triples and fours.

The boys side was made up of Ty Baker(Wee Waa), Kyle Johannes(Warilla), Sam Pryor(Gunnedah), Aaron Teys(Ballina and Paul Webb (Merrylands)

The singles opener was a perfect start for NSW and Megan, as she convincingly won 25 – 3. She then watched her team mates win the fours 32 – 9.

The boys also won their pairs and triples. In the afternoon the girls won the pairs 32 – 8 and the triples 29 – 12. The boys again won the singles and fours.

This gave both sides and eight nil victory to take out the first test.

The second test on the Sunday again was a different story with the pairs side from the ACT throwing everything at Megan and Sarah.

In a close game, NSW won 25 – 17 and the triples being won 37 – 4. The boys result was a mixed affair with NSW winning the singles but losing the fours.

In the afternoon Megan again showed the way with another solid 25 – 2 win and then watching the fours, who won comfortably 30 – 1 to take the test series two nil.

The boys had a testing afternoon winning the pairs 22 – 8 and losing the triples by one shot 11 – 12, however, won the test on for and against.

On Friday, June 5, Megan was announced in the side to take on Queensland in a three test series commencing on Friday July 10 at St Johns Park Bowling Club in Sydney. Following this she will hope to defend her title in the NSW U/18 Girl’s State Singles as well as compete in the pairs with Kenita Monk of Park Beach.

With all things going to plan Megan hopes to be selected in the NSW side for the Nationals held in late September as well as study and complete her HSC.
