The Green Beret’s inconsistent form continued last weekend when they suffered a 92 run loss against the Aussie Hotel Bears at the Recreation ground.
Hoping to repeat the winning effort of the previous week, the side had a horror day in the field and were never really in the hunt for a win.
The Bears elected to bat after winning the toss and go off to a flyer adding 114 for the opening stand in just 14 overs.
They were assisted by some ordinary fielding by the locals who put down several catches.
At drinks the Bears had reached 3/179 with B. White Church having smashed the Boorowa bowlers to all parts of the ground in making 143.
The locals began to stem the flow of runs in the second 20 overs but the damage had been done and the Bears were eventually dismissed for 287 setting Boorowa more than seven an over for victory.
Normally the Beret’s rely on their fielding and bowling as their strength but Saturday was a shocker and one the side will want to quickly forget.
Best of the bowlers was Brenden Shean with 2/21 and Chris Turner 2/41.
Facing a massive chase Lynam and Coggins started steadily before the first wicket went down with the score on 26.
Some steady partnerships saw the score progress to 4/114 after 20 overs but some restrictive bowling made the boundary hard to find.
Boorowa continued to push hard but with the constant fall of wickets trying to maintain the run rate, the target proved too much and the side eventually finished on 9/195 after 40 overs.
Best of the batsmen was Sam Lynam with 47. Rick Bennett continued his good form making 34 whilst Chris Dwyer made 23.
This weekend there is a general bye in the Saturday competition as the annual Seven a Side contest is held in Young.
Boorowa will again be represented in this tournament by a youthful side which competed last year and were very competitive.
Good luck to the lads on Saturday.
This Friday night the Green Beret’s kick off their twenty/twenty campaign against Corbett’s Tyres and Batteries at Alfred oval in Young commencing at 6.00.
Boorowa had some success in this tournament last year and hopefully the boys can adapt to the shorter form of the game and progress to the second round.
