Boorowa’s 3/4 cricket team travelled to Young on the weekend to meet the competition leaders in what turned out to be one of the games of the season.

Young won the toss and put Boorowa in to bat. George ‘the Hitman’ Chudleigh and ‘Slammin’ Sam Beath got the side off to a great start with a partnership of 28 runs off four overs. Lauren ‘Gilly’ Jenkins and Jacob ‘the Don’ Carmody took every run on offer against some very tight bowling – their tally 14 runs off four overs. Wil ‘Roy’ Stanley and Vinnie ‘Ricky’ Ryan were both sensational taking many cheeky singles and hitting the bad balls to the boundary. They had a partnership of 27 runs. Hamish ‘Haydos’ Gledhill and Michael ‘Pup’ Croker came up against some tough bowling but neither gave their wickets away to finish with 11 runs. Jack ‘Malinga’ Stanley and Ben ‘Tendulker’ Jenkins never took a backwards step and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Mal ‘Slasher’ Hurley had two overs to himself and took a hard hitting eight runs.

Boorowa finished with a competitive 93 runs and the chase was on. Full of beans, the team bowled and fielded like never before, with most efforts more likely to be seen on TV. Coach Al Jenkins had a smile from ear to ear as his charges looked like causing a real upset. With scores level and one over to go Young just crept over the line. Special mention to Robert Gledhill whose scoring ability was some of the finest pencil work ever seen in this age group. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and were cheered off by the large crowd. Great effort boys and girls.
