Cricketers good form continues

10 Dec, 2009 07:11 AM
Boorowa Continued its good form in the Criterion Cup cricket last weekend with its third straight win, this time at the expense of the Criterion Shamrocks. It was a convincing 5 wicket victory by the locals who are finally finding a bit of form with both bat and ball

“If it aint broke don’t fix it”, is the attitude the Boorowa side has adopted and for the fourth straight week they decided to chase runs after Ricky Bennett won a toss for a change. Shamrocks were in early strife being 2/5 before a 51 run stand saw them recover until the loss of two quick wickets again pegged them back. At drinks they were 4/70 and in a precarious position. The steady flow of wickets continued as Shamrocks reached 8/122 before the tailed wagged to get the score to a healthy 155 all-out in the 36th over. The dominant bowler for Boorowa was again Chris Dwyer who this week was rewarded with 4/11 in eight overs. Russell George picked up three scalps whilst Ross Gibson and Cameron Johnston took one a piece. Top marks must also go to Ross who achieved the unique feat of a double play by dropping a catch and effecting a runout all in the one motion. No referral to the video was needed on this one and the moral is that it doesn’t really matter how you get them out as long as you get them out.

On a wicket that was beginning to play low as they day went on, Boorowa’s batting lineup decided to go after the bowling rather than play cautious cricket on a dodgy wicket and get out to unpredictable deliveries.

They started well reaching 23 before the first wicket fell but then the innings stalled somewhat to be 3/41 after 10 overs. A fourth wicket partnership of 70 between Chris Dwyer and Simon Pye took Boorowa out of any danger and they managed to pass the total in just the 22nd over with only five wickets down. Chris Dwyer was the top scorer with an unbeaten 63 completing a fine man of the match performance. He was well supported by Simon Pye with 36 and Phil Coggins with 22.

At the time of going to press the new draw had not been completed but there will be a match this week and hopefully the team can continue on its winning way. Four teams are level in equal third sport on 37 points including Boorowa, and with the gradings to be decided this week, these will be decided on runrates.

See you at the courthouse for another round of post match celebrations on Saturday evening.
