THE Young and District Cricket Association held their annual presentation night at the Young PCYC last Friday with New Zealand great Sir Richard Hadlee travelling to Young especially for the ceremony.
The evening was a chance to pay tribute to the association’s best performers, both on and off the field, with president Brendan Croese given a standing ovation after announcing his retirement from the position after three years.
Aside from presenting the numerous awards on the night, Sir Richard also gave an entertaining speech, recounting his playing days facing some of Australia’s best bowlers and his experiences from around the cricketing world, as well as encouragement and advice to the many juniors in the room.
Young paceman Josh Corbett took home the lion’s share of honours on the night, picking up the Delta Agribusiness under-18 Player of the Year as well as the Ray Bourke Medal for the best and fairest player in the Criterion Cup’s A-grade competition.
Association president, Brendan Croese, said the night had gone down well thanks in large part to John Dunk, who sponsored Sir Richard’s appearance, as well as the catering team and the PCYC.
