In weather conditions more conducive to the first weekend of the footy season, Boorowa and Young JRL managed to get a game of cricket in before the heavens opened up last Saturday.
Unfortunately for the locals, despite winning the match by three wickets, the victory is only a moral one as the other matches in the competition were washed out deeming this one a no result too.
The draw means Boorowa maintains its top spot on the second grade ladder and a guaranteed second chance should they need it come semi final time.
JRL won the toss and elected to bat in the trying conditions and did so reasonably well compiling a respectable 182 all-out in just 33 overs after being in early trouble at 2/12.
They had reached 3/123 at the 20th over mark before some good bowling by Boorowa ripped through the middle order to restrict the scoring rate.
Rick Bennett was the pick of the bowlers with a fine 6/27 exploiting the bowler friendly conditions whilst Ross Gibson chipped in with 2/24.
Other wicket takers were Chris Dwyer and Russell George with one each.
The fielding was again excellent highlighted by a great catch from Joseph Carmody who took a ball that almost went into lunar orbit. He had enough time for a cut lunch but these catches are never easy.
In reply the run chase was never going to be easy in conditions that were getting worse as they day went on.
However, Boorowa attacked from the outset in order to keep ahead of the run rate required after 15 overs which is enough to normally get a result.
They got off to a flyer reaching 70 in the first ten overs and never looked in real trouble despite losing a flurry of wickets towards the end of the game and finishing at 7/183.
Brendan Shean carried on his good form with a well compiled 32. Ross Gibson was back to his brutal best with an unbeaten 54 whilst the Pye gain looked good with a solid 43.
Chris Dwyer chipped in with a quick fire 25. After struggling for runs in the early part of the season the Boorowa batting line-up is really starting to click and hopefully this can continue with the big games ahead.
It was pleasing a good number of supporters last Saturday and this is much appreciated by the team.
This week the lads will travel to Gus Smith Oval No. 1 to take on the Burrangong Cubs in the penultimate round.
The side cannot miss a top two birth and the double chance however they will be keen to wrap up top spot which will be critical if any weekends are washed out during the finals series.
By Saturday night hopefully they will be celebrating at the Courthouse with the second grade minor premiership all but sewn up.
