Boorowa had a costly nine run loss in last Saturday’s cricket against the very determined and spirited S&C Young ones at the recreation ground. It was a disappointing result for the locals, particularly after their impressive effort the week before to route the Coyotes.
Young ones won the toss and elected to bat on a day that was not particularly favourable to the bowlers. The Young ones got away to a brilliant start reaching 65 before the first wicket went down. Slowly but surely Boorowa began to apply the brakes on the batsmen and by drinks Young had reached 3/97. In the second half of the innings Boorowa fought back after dismissing opener Luke Cosgrove for 68 through an excellent piece of out fielding resulting in a runout. Young ones eventually scrambled to a reasonable total to be all out in the last over for 154.
The best of the Boorowa bowlers was Chris Turner with 3/22 who outsmarted his victims with some intelligent bowling. Rick Bennett picked up two wickets whilst Chris Dwyer, Cameron Johnston and newcomer to the team Joseph Carmody bagged one each.
In reply Boorowa openers Brendan Shean and Phil Coggins began steadily reaching 21 before coggo departed. Pysey had his furniture disturbed with a first baller and was soon followed by Chris Dwyer and Ricky leaving the innings in tatters at 4/34. By the 12th over they had slumped further to 5/58 before Shean and Jeremy Hewitt resurrected the innings to take the score past 100. At 5/101 the turning point of the game came when Brendan Shean was runout by a direct hit for a well compiled 40 continuing his good form of late. Boorowa reached 6/134 but disastrously lost its last four wickets for just eleven runs to be allout for just 145. Jeremy Hewitt batted well making a solid 39.
This weekend the lads are on the road again, travelling to Gus Smith oval to take on the Young JRL who like Boorowa are desperate for another victory to stay in touch with the top half of the ladder. Tipping the winners in this comp is harder than tipping in the NRL with any side capable of causing an upset on their day.
Any player requiring a lift should be at the Courthouse by 11.30. All supporters are welcome back to the Courthouse for the usual post match analysis and hopefully a victory celebration.
