Ladder climb continues for cricketers

08 Dec, 2011 04:32 PM
Slowly but surely Boorowa is molding together a squad that is seriously going to challenge for a first grade cricket title this season. Fielding its strongest side yet, the Boorowa side showed no mercy on an under strength and under manned Blues outfit with a 94 run win last weekend. It was their third straight victory and another win this weekend would see them go into Christmas firmly placed in the top half of the ladder.

The Blues were only a shell of their strongest team but you can only play what’s in front of you and every win is vital in the already rain-decimated competition. Boorowa won the toss and elected to bat on a perfect day for cricket.

The Blues bowling attack was still strong and Josh Miller proved a handful for the local openers early on.

Boorowa has learned to pace its innings in recent times and at the 20 over mark they had reached a reasonable position of 3/78. With wickets in hand they stepped up the tempo in the second half of the innings to reach 9/206 after the 40 overs.

Sam Lynam top-scored with a well-compiled 67, whilst Josh Carmody continued to justify his spot up the order with a well-made 35.

These two combined in a 57 run stand for the fourth wicket to ensure a healthy total.

In reply the Blues never really mounted a challenge to the Boorowa score and eventually struggled to 112. The Boorowa fielding was sensational with two catches worthy of Channel Nine coverage.

The first was by skipper Chris Dwyer in the deep to remove the hard-hitting Cameron Parker.

Not to be out done, brother Nick Dwyer closed out the game with another cracker off the bat of Brendan Croese. Running and then diving, Nick held on to a pearler and no doubt the catches are getting more spectacular each night at the Dwyer dinner table.

It was a much more committed effort in the field but the locals must produce it every week and not just when the mood strikes. The best of the bowlers was the ever reliable Ricky Bennett with 3/32 whilst Josh Carmody capped off a good game with 2/12.

This weekend the boys are on the road again, this time against the Empire Royals who are coming off a loss to the improving Shamrocks.

The venue was to be determined at the time of going to press and yet again the weather forecast is not great. If the locals can keep winning hopefully the weather will not be a factor at the end of the season in their premiership quest.

See you at the Courthouse on Saturday evening for hopefully another victory celebration.
