A dominant performance by Boorowa’s pace attack resulted in a crushing victory to the locals by 123 runs over the visiting Criterion Shamrocks last Saturday.
With the Boorowa outfit virtually back at full strength and the Shamrocks missing a couple of their key batsmen, Boorowa were keen not to drop two games in succession and although the batting stuttered in the middle order, the locals were in command for the majority of the game.
Boorowa won the toss and batted first getting away to a reasonable start to be 3/67 after 12 overs.
However the wheels fell off the middle order and at 7/84 after 20 overs anything over 100 was starting to look good.
However one thing in the locals favour was that they batted right down to number eleven which was indicated by the fact that they added 122 for the last three wickets. Simon Pye returned to form on the weekend with 44, Rick Bennett made 43 and Sean Dwyer a useful 35.
Coming in down the order Josh Carmody with an unbeaten 29 and Justin Corkery a lusty 24 Not Out pushed the score over the physiological 200 mark to 9/206 in the allotted overs.
It makes life easier when your lower order bats as well as the top order, a luxury the Indians have missed in the test series.
The Shamrocks never really looked threatening in reply being in deep trouble at 2/5 and continuing to lose wickets on a regular basis before being knocked over for just 83.
Sam Lynam produced his most devastating bowling performance of the summer to have a few of the Criterion batsmen very nervous.
Sam picked up 3/11 with a fast and hostile five overs.
All of the five bowlers used picked up wickets.
Rick Bennett took 2/20 and Sean Dwyer 2/25, whilst Tom Magee and Chris Dwyer also bowled well.
The fielding was also on song with Tom Magee picking up three catches including a one handed classic.
It was a big difference between the two sides with the Shamrocks dropping several chances.
This week the side travels to Cranfield oval to play the hot and cold Coyotes.
On their day they are a very dangerous team especially on their home track and this will be another tough encounter.
Meanwhile the date for the 20/20 final in which the locals will compete has been set and will be contested under the lights of Alfred oval on Friday 3 February against the Royals commencing at 8pm.
This match will be a cracker with both teams capable of some huge hitting. A preview of this game will appear closer to the match. See you at the cricket.
