Under 17’s so close

Under cloudy skies and the threat of wet weather Thompsons Rural Supplies travelled to Young to play the ANZ bank team.

After being washed out last week the boys were keen to get a game and with the field still a bit damp from recent rain the ball would be a bit slow in the out field so runs would be at a premium.

Boorowa lost the toss and were sent into bat and played a consistent innings keeping the score board ticking over James Horton again showed his skill with the bat with a solid 22 while Sam Lynam got his 16 in three boundaries.

Josh Carmody batted patiently for his 11, and was supported by Nick Dwyer with 11 also. Boorowa finished their innings with 5 for 106 , a modest total but a defendable one given the damp conditions.

The Boorowa boys bowled and fielded very well and at the half way mark after a good catch from James Green and some tight bowling from Nick Dwyer, Cameron and Matt Johnston and Justin Corkery had the home team at 4 for 36.

Young then started to find the boundary as the field started to dry out with Zac Williams scoring an unbeaten 28 and Jim McGlynn hitting a fine 17.

Murray Armour slowed the run chase late in the innings with 2 for 10 of four over’s and Brendon Dunn chimed in with a wicket to set up an exciting finish.

However the home team managed to survive the late bowling challenge and were able to reach the required tally in the second last over.

The boys are obviously enjoying their cricket and their fielding and catching reflect this, they have the skills and talent to challenge all the teams in the comp.

It is pleasing to see the younger ones who have stepped up from under twelves last year are beginning to find their feet amongst the bigger boys.

Stumped

U-10’s do it again

Boorowa side batted first with an opening stand of 18 between Jacob Carmody and Will Stanley, these boys showed some remarkable shots and running between wickets.

Mal Hurley and Sam Beath came in next to continue the strong batting attack, Ben Jenkins and Mark Veness followed next into bat with some excellent stroke play.

Hamish Gledhill and Jack Hinds ripped the attack to shreds before finally with the introduction of the enforcers to the crease, George Chudleigh and Tom Jenkins which gave the team those final runs on the score board.

Young’s Woolfords Plumbing side bowled well with thanks going to Adam Hinds for filling in on the day.

Boorowa’s bowling was breath-taking with Jacob Carmody nearly snaring a hat-trick and George the enforcer taking a wicket or two.

Well done boys.
