B’ballers celebrate season

23 Oct, 2008 12:51 PM
Boorowa Basketball Association Inc players and their families spent Saturday October 11 celebrating their season’s achievements. It was encouraging to see the crowd grow as more tables and chairs were needed.

A highlight for the evening was seeing a young group of girls from the Toxic Sausages collect their Grandfinal trophies as winners in B grade for 2008. There were squeals of delight as they held their Ist Basketball trophy.

Greta Campbell Club President has always been a great encourager of the game and she loves to see youngsters getting into a team and having a go.

“Its great to see the young kids enjoying their basketball, these are our future,” Greta said as she later helped them celebrate by dancing the night away.

Annual awards for the evening were given, with these going to:

Ashlee Uren Highest point scorer for women

Brent Armour Highest point scorer for men

Peter Croker Best and fairest men

Emma Pye Best and Fairest women

Clubperson of the year went to Kylie Halls

Life Member was given to Donna Halls. This was a very popular and well received award for the evening with Donna a little shocked but honoured to receive it.

Boorowa Basketball Association Inc has a small but hardworking committee and during the night it was acknowledged with applause what a few people had pulled together.

The crowd hung around as they danced till late and celebrated until next year when the new season begins for the winter.
