Thanks Mr Rudd

Last week Mayor Wendy Tuckerman was in Canberra for the Inaugural meeting of all Australian Local Council Mayors which proved to be a very worthwhile occasion for Boorowa Council.

The Federal Government spoke of forging stronger partnerships between Federal and Local Government and was acutely aware of the state of infrastructure in our nation. The announcement of immediately distributing 250 million dollars to Councils was most welcome, of which Boorowa Council was allocated $100,000.

A further $50 million fund will be available on a competitive application based, accountable and open to projects seeking a minimum Commonwealth Contribution of $2 million.

Mr Rudd also announced an ongoing infrastructure fund that will be included in next year’s budget.

Final guidelines will be released shortly on what the funding can be spent on, unfortunately it does not include roads.

When guidelines are known and timelines realised this matter will be presented to the Economic Development Committee for discussion.
