Organisers have been busy over the past weeks gearing up for Boorowa’s 123rd annual show to be held on 3 March.
President Jim Darmody says that another bumper season and good prices are going to ensure some great livestock entries for the display.
Already judging has occurred for a new look commercial cattle section, and this week the flock ewe entries are assessed by the judges.
You can catch a ride around properties to look at the flock ewe entries, this Friday 17 February.
A free bus will be leaving from Boorowa Pastoral Supplies at 7.20am.
2012 The Australian Year of the Farmer
This year the Boorowa Show would like to help celebrate the 2012 Australian Year of the Farmer and organisers have asked the schools to base their displays around this theme.
The show would like to recognise the significant contribution agriculture makes to Australia’s economy and prosperity, and the role farmers have in feeding, clothing and providing building materials in every community.
Feature section: shearing
Shearing is the feature section for this year’s show. This competition attracts a huge number of entries and is a great spectator sport, so go along and support the competitors. If you have never seen shearing before, then a competition like this is a wonderful place to start where adrenalin, skill and a great sense of mateship ensure an exciting afternoon of entertainment.
Team penning competition
For the second year, the Boorowa Show will be running a team penning competition on Sunday 4 March. After a resounding success with the inaugural competition last year, one of the organisers, Jenny Reid, reported that the entries quickly filled to maximum capacity and it sets the scene for another highly successful competition this year. Team Penning and Team Yarding are the fastest growing horse sports and well worth attending to watch the skill of the competitors. One of the most important factors in the growth of this sport is the fact that someone of any age and ability can be a worthy member of a team, and it is a great sport for the whole family, or a group of mates to be involved in too.
New computerised entry system
and the show office opens
This year we are trialling a new computerised entry system to help reduce the workload of ticketing entries for the pavilion. Secretary Narelle Nixon and Treasurer Dianne Hopkirk are looking forward to testing the potential of such a system. They ask that you place your entries before 5pm Wednesday 29 February. The show office opens 20 February and is situated in the Boorowa Court House, next to the police station. Office hours are 10am-5pm each week day. Schedules can be picked up from Carmody’s Newsagency and the Boorowa Court House Arts and Craft for a gold coin donation. Further enquiries can be made to Narelle: ph 6385 5217 or 0427 070 341.
