“Following concerns raised by the Boorowa Pony Club, a meeting was held on Friday, July 20 to discuss the depth of sand at the horse arena at the Showground,” general manager Therese Manns wrote in her report to Councillors.
“Representatives from the Boorowa Show Society, Team Penning Organisers and the Cutting organisers were in attendance. The Pony Club was an apology.
“The horse arena at the Showground is now used for three separate horse related activities during the calendar year including: Pony Club (meets once a month); Team Penning (two events per year) and Cutting (two events per year).
“Team Penning is a relatively new activity at Boorowa and has provided a successful event. Unfortunately, all three activities require and/or prefer differing levels of sand in the arena.
“The removal and replacement of sand required to be undertaken to ensure correct levels has proved an inconvenience to both Team Penning organisers and to Pony Club.
“To ensure that the facility could be used and supported by all three groups, a meeting was held to reach an agreement on sand levels.
“There appears to be no standard for sand depths in horse arenas.
“At the [July 20] meeting it was resolved that 125ml of sand be contained within the arena, and that any excess sand be stockpiled outside the arena should any group wish to use more sand.
“If this is the case, the user group must move sand in and out of the arena.”
