Last Saturday the Upper Lachlan Shire Council held the official opening of the Main Road 248 from Boorowa to Crookwell held at Narrawa Hall.
Boorowa Council played a significant part in gaining funding to seal the 19 kilometre section of the road by preparing a submission to the Federal Government.
The grant submission was successful from the previous Federal Government to the value of 3.3 million dollars which required the Upper Lachlan Shire to allocate the 1.5 million dollars to see the project to fruition.
Boorowa Council’s involvement evolved over many years of lobbying by local residents to seal this main road, after Boorowa Council completed the sealing of their road to the boundary.
The residents continued to push for the remaining section to be sealed and Boorowa Council assisted the residents by lobbying Upper Lachlan Shire Council on the importance of sealing the road to the region.
By submitting the successful grant application Boorowa Council negotiated contract work on the road.
The strategic alliance that Boorowa Council had with Upper Lachlan Shire Council to secure the funding and see this project to fruition was extremely successful and has produced a very good outcome for the region as a whole.
Over 100 people were in attendance at the opening including many local residents and members of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club who now enjoy riding the Tourist Route, to see Federal Member for Hume Alby Shultz cut the ribbon and officially opened the road, with Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkinson, The Honorable Member for the Legislative Council Mick Veitch, Mayor John Shaw and Mayor Wendy Tuckerman also in attendance.
