The Boorowa community turned out in large numbers for this year’s Australia Day festivities held at the Boorowa Recreation Ground.
A lifetime of community service and dedication was recognised on Tuesday with Peter Dewar announced as Boorowa’s Citizen of the Year.
Mr Dewar has been a tireless worker for many organisations and it was his ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to simply get things done that enhanced hundreds of local projects and causes over the years and brought about his Australia Day honour.
Born and bred in Boorowa, Mr Dewar has been a member of both Apex and Boorowa Lions over the years.
He was the driving force behind the lighting of the duck pond area of the park and has worked tirelessly on the upgrading of the local War Memorial, including the facelift of the polished floor and the ongoing restorations that followed. For this, Mr Dewar was appointed as custodian of the War Memorial six years ago.
It was an honour he did not expect but one well deserved.
Among his many interests and ‘causes’ are the Tidy Towns Committee, the M&D Society, Burrowa House, the Boorowa Men’s Den and the NSW Fire Brigade.
Mr Dewar holds the National Medal for Service with the Brigade and Bar to that medal.
Passionate about his community, Mr Dewar has a reputation for never turning his back when assistance is needed.
The large crowd in attendance were delighted when Mr Dewar was presented with the award by Apex president, Debbie Barclay.
