Rain failed to dampen enthusiasm at St Joseph’s Primary School last Wednesday as they unveiled their brand new library.
The school received $950,000 to build the new facility and refurbish their multi-purpose hall under the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution program.
This money was allocated in round two of the program called Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) and is in addition to the $75,000 the school received in round one of funding under the National Schools Pride (NSP) scheme for other refurbishments.
Federal Member for Hume Alby Shultz was on hand to help unveil the building which received a blessing from Fr Laurie.
Principal Peter Hughes welcomed the school’s funding boost.
“It is great for our school to have this injection of funds and that all schools in Australia are able to receive new
facilities.”
He said the new library will help support the Information Technology learning environment.
Boorowa Central School received $850,000 under P21 to refurbish their library and to construct new Covered Outdoor Learning Areas and $125,000 under NSP for general refurbishments.
The $16.2 billion program was part of the government’s economic stimulus plan to modernise school buildings and
support job growth.
