There are millions of dollars worth of machines in Boorowa, at the moment, waiting to start on the harvest.
Because of the strange weather there has been locally lately, the canola harvest had only just began before the rain came and because of the rain it had to stop and now it looks as if it will begin again towards the end of the week.
Queensland contractor Tim Ross, who has been coming to Boorowa for the last twelve years, is hoping that because of the hot dry weather, that has caused the harvest to come on faster than usual, will actually finish earlier, hopefully around Christmas time.
Mr Ross does not usually start harvesting before the second week of December.
“As the rain is patchy, it is not helping the harvest or the quality of the canola grain and as the harvest had only just begun when the rain came the yields are expected to be down on average” said local Agronomist, Tom Corkhill.
As for the other cereal crops, they are not ready to be harvested just yet, hopefully in a couple of weeks, although the rain has not affected them too much they have been knocked around by that spell of dry weather that occurred about two weeks ago.
