Beautiful long locks will be a thing of the past for some high school students at Boorowa Central.
Seven daring students, including four girls, are putting on brave faces and taking part in this year’s Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser.
One of Australia’s biggest fundraiser’s the students will lose their locks on Friday March 19 in aid of cancer and are urging everyone in the Boorowa community to show their support.
Year 12’s Hayley Mears and Terri Bush, year 11’s Mitchell Lesley and Mark Poplin, year 9’s Harmony Mewburn, year 8’s Riley Hunter and year 7’s Madison Howard are the seven courageous students all taking part.
Across Boorowa the students have placed special appeal tins, which people can throw their loose change or notes into plus businesses and organisations are being encouraged to sponsor a student.
Currently these wonderful students have raised over $3000 which will be used by the Leukaemia Foundation to fund free services to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. It also funds blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures.
Participant Hayley Mears says taking part in this worthwhile cause has been an idea of hers for a while.
“I wanted to take part in this since my cousin was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma but I never thought I’d do it,” Hayley said.
“I’m really excited about taking part and can’t wait to get my hair cut off, it’s such a good cause.
“We have been really fortunate to have raised so much money already and we are encouraging more businesses or organisations to jump on board like Rotary and Lions Club have done.”
The shave will take place at the school on March 19 during lunch with the public most welcome to attend with entry to the hall by gold coin donation.
