John Dunn (Army - general service officer) and Rudy Corcoran(RAAF-Aerospace engineering) from Boorowa Central School won a laptop computer each as part of the ADFA Education Award which means they are well on the way to a successful and rewarding career in the Australian Defence Force.
Winning an ADFA Education Award represents an outstanding achievement and Boorowa Central School is rightly proud of John and Rudy’s outstanding performance in the selection process and subsequent award.
“We are not surprised that the leadership these two students have shown already, in their academic studies, sporting fields and personal lives, has been recognised by ADFA” said Jenny Green, Acting Principal, Boorowa Central School.
“It is virtually unheard of that two awards have gone to the same school and we could not be prouder of the boys’ Ms Green said.
The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is a college of the University of New South Wales and graduates officers to the Royal Australian Navy, Army and Royal Australian Air Force with degrees in the fields of Arts, Business, Science, Engineering and Technology.
Along with academic studies, cadets and midshipmen are introduced to military studies, fitness training, and leadership and management skills.
The ADFA Education Award is presented to students who have excelled in academics, sporting achievement and leadership potential.
The selection process is extremely competitive.
Award recipients are selected after completing psychometric testing, psychological and recruiting officer interviews and finally an Officer Selection Board in which all applicants are ranked in order of merit.
The aim is to identify those candidates with the most potential to be tomorrow’s military leaders.
The selection process culminates in a visit to ADFA in Canberra where candidates appear before an Office Selection Board and are introduced to the Academy and the Canberra lifestyle.
John and Rudy are to be congratulated on their exceptional achievement.
