After a gruelling day with the three judges, the four ladies got to celebrate Kate’s win at the cocktail party on Saturday night.
The other ladies that were in the competition were Sara Philpott, Tara Darmody and Elizabeth Moorby.
“I am really proud to be selected as Boorowa Showgirl as I love Boorowa and I am looking forward to the next twelve months as I am already feeling more confident from this wonderful opportunity” said Kate McGrath after winning the title.
“I would like to encourage any other ladies thinking about entering the competition as it is really a challenge and one that I have overcome” said Ms McGrath.
As can be imagined for an event like this, there has been a lot of organising going on behind the scenes and the chief organiser was Rachel Sheridan.
“I am thrilled with the support given to Boorowa Show’s Annual Miss Showgirl, and to the cocktail party as it is a testament to the community spirit of Boorowa.
The four ladies who competed are all wonderful ambassadors for Boorowa and we are lucky to have such fine ladies in the community.
We are proudly supported by incredible sponsors, caterers and lots of people who help with such an event” said Ms Sheridan.
The judges were Sarah Barrett, who is known in the Boorowa district as a Landcare coordinator and currently is with the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority.
Sarah entered the Miss Showgirl in Wagga Wagga and went on to be the State runner up in 1998 and describes the experience as one of the most beneficial personal development experiences she has had.
Another of the judges was Jillian Kilby, who won the Land Sydney Royal Easter Showgirl Competition in 2006, representing Coonamble Show Society.
Jillian has judged Showgirls for the past four years at local and zone levels as well as judging the 2008 National Rural Ambassador Competition.
The final judge was James Brady, who has worked as an agronomist at Collarenebri, Griffith, Tarcutta, Cootamundra and is now working for Seed Force as the Southern NSW and Upper Murray agronomist.
Kate McGrath will now compete at Queanbeyan on March 6, 2010 and we all wish her the best.
