History of rugby league in Boorowa

10 Nov, 2011 03:45 PM
A book detailing the history of rugby league in Boorowa since 1920 is now available for loan from the Boorowa Library.

The ‘90 year history of Rugby League in Boorowa/Burrowa’, written by former resident Bede Ryan, recounts an era when Boorowa imported highly ranked players from Sydney clubs to compete in Group 9 and challenge for the fiercely fought ‘Maher Cup’.

It includes articles, photos, recollections, personal glimpses, letters, opinions and a myriad of names and events rekindling the memories of league pasts.

Mr Ryan has also donated the book to Young Library.

Janice Ottey, Young Regional Library Manager, was excited at the prospect of having the book available for residents to borrow from the library.

“There is a great interest in sports history in the district,” she said.

“I am sure it will be a very popular item in the Library.”

Ms Ottey said the book would appeal to former players from Young and Boorowa who were interested in the history of league in the area and players who had gone on to be successful in other areas.
