Lack of patronage and lack of funds have put the brakes on a community bus service for the Boorowa shire.
As of July 1 the community bus that ran from Boorowa to Young and back again on a Thursday has been cancelled due to lack of funding.
“I am very disappointed that the bus run has ceased,” said Robert Taylor, driver of the community bus.
“We were given enough money for the first 12 months and managed to stretch it for another six months, while we looked into other options for funding, but none has been forthcoming,” Mr Taylor said.
“It is a real shame that the service has been stopped.”
The service started as Boorowa did not have any public transport and was used by the community if they had to have appointments in Young.
The bus regularly picked up four passengers in Murringo to go to Young and they now will be picked up by the Community Bus from Young.
“The service was unable to obtain further funds so it had to be cancelled” said David Philpott, General Manager Boorowa Council.
“It costs about $300 a day to run and, of course, the more customers that were on the bus [meant]the less money is required” said Mr Taylor.
