Boorowa goes international

26 Nov, 2009 07:19 AM
On November 9 and 10, Boorowa community played host to an international television crew from the Tzu Chi Foundation.

Supported by a group of members from their Sydney office the Da Ai television crew were focusing on Boorowa and how the local community had been addressing natural resource management issues, particularly focusing on salinity.

Interviews were filmed with Roger Clark “Hillrose”, Leanne Leihn from Boorowa Community Landcare Group, Geoff Minchin from Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (CMA) and Andrew Wooldridge from Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water.

Apart from the interviews being filmed there were also different parts of the community such as The Boorowa River, various salinity sites in the region, a number of environmental rehabilitation projects and the view from the top of Mount Carramumbola filmed

The production crew will now create two twenty four minute documentaries showcasing how landholders, local community, Landcare and Government Agencies work together in partnership to address local natural resource issues.

“It’s great to be able to showcase some of the work the local Boorowa community has been doing. Addressing natural resource management issues requires a real community effort” said Local Catchment Officer from the Lachlan CMA Mr Geoff Minchin.

“By sharing our knowledge, experiences and achievements it is hoped we can encourage other communities to do the same.” said Mr Minchin.

The documentaries will be screened on the Da Ai cable television network, broadcasted globally in 2010.

Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 in Taiwan, its focus is on giving material aid to the needy and inspiring, love and humanity to both givers and receivers.

In addition to charity, the foundation dedicates itself in the fields of medicine, education, environmental protection, international relief work and the establishment of the world’s third largest marrow donor registry.

It also promotes humanistic values and community volunteerism.

The Tzu Chi Foundation along with the Boorowa Community Landcare Group and Lachlan Catchment Management Authority is in the early stages of planning a volunteer tree planting event for early next year.
