An extension on the already existing bike path around the central township of Boorowa is well underway.
Boorowa Council are currently working on stage one of the six month long project, which will see an extension on the pathway around Dry, Ford, Campbell, North, Jugiong, Market, Marsden, Parnell and Long Streets.
In total the project is worth around $722,000 and was funded through a Federal Government grant of $532,821 along with an extra $189,000 from Boorowa Council, which is a combination of money and in kind.
Boorowa Council General Manager, David Philpott says the path is something that was much needed for the Boorowa community.
“We have a lot of residents who like to walk to the CBD (central business district),” Mr Philpott said.
“This continuation of the already existing path will provide that important linkage.”
Stage one of the bike path extension will see an extra 1.75km of path constructed by council workers around the Dry, Ford, Campbell, North and Long Streets.
Stage two will be an 850 metre extension arm of the path, which will travel around Campbell Street, along River Road, which is adjacent to the Boorowa River, connect at Court Street and run back up to Campbell Street.
The final stage of the bike path will be 1.73km long covering Jugiong Street, down Marsden Street along Parnell Street before running down Market Street back to Jugiong Street.
Mr Philpott said they hope to have stages one, two and three completed by the end of June this year.
“The project is coming along well and will be a great asset for Boorowa.”
