League season ready for kick-off
3:47 PM | With weather warming up it’s hard to believe that the Junior Rugby league is already making plans for the 2012 season. The Country Rugby League are visiting both St Joseph’s and Boorowa Central School on Thursday, February 16 and the Bushrangers will be following this up with their sign-on day the following Saturday, February 18.
3:46 PM | Ben Davis made the long treck west to Leeton for the Speedo Sprint Heats last Sunday. The big day was a huge success for Ben as he swam in five events, bringing home three silver medals in 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke as well as a bronze in the 50m butterfly.
Looking for a gold rush in 2012
3:44 PM | With the 2012 Rugby season quickly approaching the Boorowa Goldies have once again pulled the runners out - some have even purchased new pairs - and taken to the Rec oval for some preseason conditioning. After three consecutive and successful years as coach, Bruce Nixon has stood down this year and the reins have been handed to Ben Johnson, who now has the job of getting the boys back together and match fit.
3:43 PM | The Boorowa Mens Bowling Club has proudly informed the South West District that it will field two teams in the 2012 pennants. With now over 30 members the Club will be graded in fours after winning the fives in 2011.
Middle order magic secures victory
3:39 PM | Batting depth for any cricket side is crucial, and it was no more evident than last Saturday when Boorowa recovered from an horrific batting collapse to secure a vital four wicket win over the Great Eastern Power. A previously run starved Cameron Johnston feasted on the bowling attack and along with a patient Brendan Shean combined for an unbeaten seventh wicket stand of 77 to get the locals home.
3:37 PM | DANIEL'S EXCELLENT RESULTS Boorowa Central School Captain for 2011, Daniel Anlezark, achieved excellent results in the recent HSC. His marks included a Band 6 in Ancient History, earning him a place on the Board of Studies Honour Role for the most highly achieving students in the state.
3:35 PM | The 24th annual Boorowa Flock Ewe Competition, proudly sponsored by the Boorowa Pastoral supplies will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012. A total of nine flocks of maiden ewes have been entered. Chief Steward of the event, Rick Power, said entries are down this year but he hopes they will increase next year for the 25-year-anniversary.
Young and District Hub expands into Boorowa
3:33 PM | The Young and District Hub (formerly Young Neighbourhood Centre) is expanding its information and referral services to include Boorowa. The team (pictured above) have rented a small office in the main street (22 Marsden) and are open each Friday from 9.30am-1.30pm.
Wet, wild and woolly
3:32 PM | It is still summer but it sure doesn’t feel like it. There has already been 36.6mm of rain recorded in Boorowa for February - the highest daily total being 32.4mm on February 3 - which is already more than the monthly average of 34.2mm.
3:31 PM | NSW Valuer General Philip Western said landowners and rate paying lessees of 1,957 properties in the Boorowa local government area (LGA) have been issued with a Notice of Valuation showing the land value of their property as at July 1, 2011.
3:28 PM | Just a few metres away, you will find the hole in the ground designated as the space for Rugby residents to use as their local tip but this has not stopped piles of rubbish and household items from being dumped just inside the tip’s entry gates.
02 Feb 12 | A place in local cricket history beckons for Boorowa cricketers as they attempt to be the first ever Boorowa side to win a T20 grand final tomorrow night under the bright lights at Alfred Oval commencing at 8pm. The newest format of the game has taken the world by storm and the local side has flourished in this new format in recent seasons.
02 Feb 12 | The Boorowa Gun Club held its monthly shoot on January 28 attracting 50 shooters from across the state. The highlight of the day was the 50T/D/B Championship. With five shooters shooting a possible 50/50 David Crane won with a score of 117/117 defeating Clive Foster 116/117.
02 Feb 12 | A Family Fun Night has been planned for the entire community to band together to raise money for much needed seating under the new shade at our local swimming pool. Boorowa Swimming Pool will be THE place to be on Saturday, February 11 from 5pm until 9pm.
02 Feb 12 | Nine swimmers and their families from Boorowa Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Wagga on Sunday for a big day of swimming. The day was off to a great start with Brock Ritchie swimming in the very first race and bringing home a 3rd place medal in the 800m freestyle.

Show and Shine cancelled due to organiser's illness
02 Feb 12 | The Boorowa Annual Show and Shine for 2012 has unfortunately been cancelled due to illness of one of the organisers. The annual event has proved to be very popular and successful in previous years hosting a large display of cars and creating interest amongst the town and car enthusiasts alike.

Boorowa studs take out top ribbons
02 Feb 12 | The Boorowa district claims it “breeds the best Merino sheep in Australia” and if the Great Southern Supreme Merino show’s results are anything to go by, this claim might be on the money.
02 Feb 12 | Local resident John Snelling has clinched Boorowa Apex’s Citizen of the Year Award at the town’s Australia Day presentation last week. Mr Snelling, involved in many of Boorowa’s organisations and activities, was awarded the honour for his dedication and commitment to the town.
